Mr. Hoff has just completed his first Waterboxx study with the Moroccan government, planting 3500 fruit tree saplings in the Sahara desert. After three years, over 88% are rapidly growing. Now, similar studies are ongoing in Kenya and Spain. He has chosen Napa/Sonoma and Palm Springs/Joshua Tree for his United States study. Being considered by Popular Science as one of 2010's top ten inventions in the world, these international programs will collect important data, which will play a significant role in solving global warming and feeding the planet.Aquapro Waterboxx site http://www.aquaproholland.com/
More about the inventor - Peter Hoff
Mr. Hoff was the largest grower of lilies in the Netherlands and the largest exporter of bulbs in the world. He sold his business five years ago with one thought in mind, to solve global warming from a botanist's standpoint. His goals were small to reforest the planet and feed the world. As he states "I wanted to leave a better world for our children." The "Groasis" Waterboxx captures water FROM THE AIR through condensation and rain. Shaped like a motorcycle tire, but deeper, with a hole in the centre, a sapling or a seed can be planted in any soil condition. The sophistically designed top catches water from condensation at night. Together with the rainwater from rare showers, it is distributed in small doses to the tree inside. Additionally the Waterboxx prevents water in the topsoil layers from evaporating and protects the roots against sun, wind, weeds or rodents. After a year the tree is strong enough to grow by itself and the polypropylene WaterBoxx can be removed to be used again 12 times. A biodegradable Waterboxx is also available for single use applications. The Waterboxx makes it possible to plant trees or bushes on rocks, on mountains, in gardens, in ashes, burned woods, overgrazed lands, eroded areas, deserts or any other place, without the help of irrigation with a 92% planting result. In moderate climates the Waterboxx causes a 15 to 30% faster growth after the start. Science Award In November 2008 the Waterboxx was awarded the Dutch Bèta Dragons Science Award 2008 in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The jury was very positive about the potential of the "Groasis" Waterboxx as a solution for ecological, climate and poverty issues. Recently, the Waterboxx has been nominated by Popular Science as one of the top ten inventions for 2010.- Categories
